They arrive in pill bottles, plastic bags, and sometimes, like this ring on the left, in their original boxes. Each a treasured item, the memories they hold need loving care and handling.
Each one has a story to tell: the first day we met, the feelings, smells, sounds of the time and place are captured forever and recalled just by wearing the item close to the heart.
This particular engagement ring came from the world-famous Jewellery Disrict of the City of Birmingham, Great Britain. (The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is certainly worth a visit if you're ever in the area.) If you look closely, the mount on the left side is cracked and a little crooked - with very good reason - it saved the lady wearing it from losing a finger when a railway carriage door was slammed shut! The railiway station was the once renowned Birningham Snow Hill pride of the Great Western Railway company.
Though the ring had survived two World Wars, been passed down 2 generations, at some point it parted company with one of its three garnets - we will leave you to decide which one!
